Kerry Phelan, KPDO

Having been to Milan many times, and possessing a keen eye, Kerry knows the quality Milan venues to frequent!

Favourite hotel…
Spadari
Spadari is fabulous and incredibly interesting. It’s owned by the original founding family and is an intact mid 80’s design. From the front door to the rooms there is nothing left to chance - divine!

Favourite morning coffee & pastry… Marchesi
Stand and have a macchiato like a local. We also love an apricot mignon (or two!), it’s the perfect start to your day.

Favourite café…. Bar Cova
For the tuna salad!

Favourite restaurants… Il Baretto or Giacomo Arengario
For a social and deeply special experience

Favourite gallery… Vincenzo De Cotiis
The gallery on everyone's list! Via Privata Fratelli Gabba 1A
And Fondazione Prada is a must. The architecture by OMA somehow always feels fresh. And inspiring, super inspiring. Not to mention that art!

Favourite vintage furniture store... Robertaebasta

Kerry also adores sitting in the Il Baretto garden, a joy after a long day of walking. As the original Dolce & Gabbana showroom and residence, now the restaurant and garden are a reprieve from the city buzz!

"I have been trying to get to Salone since 2018 but between pregnancies and Covid I still haven’t made it!

I am not particularly food orientated so I would likely spend my time consuming coffee and wine and reserving my energy for galleries or interesting architecture.

Some of my wishlist items are as follows –

1) Visit the Nilufar Gallery. It's one of my favorite sources of inspiration – ever evolving and exploring the historic and contemporary best of the best in furniture and art.

2) A private (probably dreaming as I don’t think its open to the public) tour of Gabriele Salvatori’s pied a terre ‘Casa Salvatori’ which is a spectacular piece of interior design and hugely inspirational to me.

3) Villa Necchi Campiglio – the gorgeous residence designed by architect Piero Portaluppi.

4) Villa Borsani – which is just 15km north of Milan in Varedo. Borsani’s furniture are some of the most coveted and collected Italian mid century furniture pieces and his house is an amazing marriage of his iconic furniture AND the sexiest interiors you have ever seen – think blue carpet, incredible parquet floors, Verde marble, glass geometric stair balustrades….divine!"

Kate Walker, KWD

"There is nowhere like Milan for architectural and design inspiration!

A feast for all the senses, one can walk for hours exploring the streets and arcades. Wearing comfortable shoes is a must, and my Chloe Nama Mesh Sneakers were the perfect solution.

Everywhere there are textural details and intricate patterns, looking up to marvel at the architectural brilliance and looking down at the most breathtaking marble mosaic floors I have seen anywhere in the world.

No visit to Milan is complete without strolling through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in the early morning, when it is at its most peaceful, and starting the day with an espresso and pastry from Marchesi 1824. Browsing through my favourite interior and fashion books in Rizzoli, where these design bibles came to life, was an extraordinary moment in time.

Exploring the Brera District with its captivating design stores was a delight, as was discovering Grand Italia with its authentic and honest interior and traditional Italian fare. The lasagna, the beef tartare, the pizza like no pizza I have ever experienced, and sipping on a Milano Mito made for the perfect Milanese lunch. It was just what we needed to fuel us for the exhilarating but exhausting adventure at Salone Del Mobile, before ending the day with the perfect aperitivo."
